About Bake Me Happy
All ‘Bake Me Happy’ workshops are taught by me, Joy Neal, in my home teaching kitchen in Rusthall near Tunbridge Wells, UK.
I am a passionate cook and baker with a background in teaching and catering.
I started a kids cookery company in 2005 (Munchkins Kids Cooking) offering healthy eating workshops, foodie assemblies, staff training and parents courses on cooking and nutrition in Primary and Secondary Schools across London, as well as cookery after schools club, holiday courses and parties for kids of all ages. I also worked on the Cbeebies 'I Can Cook' programme and as a food consultant for other BBC productions.
I then opened Blackheath Cooks - a popular local cookery school and cookshop - in SE London in 2010. We offered cookery classes, parties and events for adults and children. I worked with a brilliant team of chefs and teachers who delivered a wide range of courses, and collaborated with the local butcher, fishmonger, wine merchants and Riverford organic vegetables to offer supper clubs and themed workshops. I absolutely loved the business but sold it in 2014 when my twins were born (because with 3 children under the age of 2, work had to go on the back burner for a while!)
We moved to Kent in 2015 and having installed a new kitchen in our house, I now offer small group cookery classes at home. These classes draw on my years of experience of teaching people to cook, and give me a good excuse to keep writing and developing recipes designed for fail-safe home cooking!
I love cooking with people and sharing my passion and enthusiasm for creating great food from scratch. And I believe that the best way to increase your kitchen confidence and learn new skills is by getting stuck in, and asking as many questions as you like (preferably with a glass of wine to hand!)
